End Of June Report

Thursday, June 19th: The water temp was 85.5 in the a.m. and peaked at 87.4 in the p.m. The clarity was good but there was a lot of June grass (algae). The wind was out of the SW in the morning at 9-10mph and shifted WNW at 9-11 mph by the afternoon. There were a few Spanish Mackerel, Hardtails, one King and an under-size Sailfish caught in the morning. Heath E. caught most of the King, but a Barracuda took his portion first. The afternoon was slow. Slick hooked the only King. However, his hook pulled, Jeffery hooked a Tarpon that didn’t jump. After a few minutes into the battle, the hook pulled. There were a few Spanish Mackerel, a couple of small Mahi, lots of Hardtails and a few Ladyfish. The bait was plentiful, consisting of Cigar Minnows and Alewives.

 

 

 

 

Friday: The water temp was 86.0 in the a.m. and peaked at 88.2 in the p.m. The clarity was good but there was a lot of June grass (algae). The wind was out of the NNE in the morning at 97-10mph and shifted W at 7-11 mph by the afternoon. The morning was very slow with one small King Mackerel. The afternoon brought a wind switch. Sergia was drifting an Alewife when he spotted a Mahi. He sat his pole down and began casting a jig for the Mahi. Suddenly his King rod got hammered. The fish stayed deep during most of the fight, but Sergio was finally able to get it to the surface and to the gaff. It weighed 25-pounds. Jeffery hooked two Kings, one a “schoolie” that the hook pulled and the other was very small and he popped it off. I hooked a tiny King and popped it off. There was one other “schoolie” King caught and one summer Bonita. Jeffery hooked a tarpon for a few jumps then Chewy hooked one, He fought it for a while and turned it over to Jeffery. Jeffery brought it back close to the pier and popped it off. There were a few Spanish Mackerel, Ladyfish and Hardtails. Noah hooked, caught and broke off several Red Drum in the shallows. All were released. Available bait was Cigar Minnows, Alewives and a few Spanish Sardine.

 

 


Saturday: The water temp was 85.5 in the a.m. and peaked at 88.7 in the p.m. The clarity was good but there was a lot of June grass (algae). The wind was out of the N in the morning at 5-7mph and shifted W at 6-13 mph by the afternoon. Tarpon hooked. Spanish Mackerel, Hardtails, Ladyfish caught.


Sunday: The water temp was 85.3 in the a.m. and peaked at 89.1 in the p.m. The clarity was good but there was a lot of June grass (algae). The wind was out of the E in the morning at 4-8mph and shifted ESE at 5-10 mph by the afternoon. Jeffery and Cuba caught and released Tarpon in the morning. Cuba got a small Mahi and there were a couple small King Mackerel caught early morning. Five Kings and several Tarpon were caught in the afternoon. There were Alewives and a few Cigar Minnows available. 


Monday: The water temp was 86.5 in the a.m. and peaked at 88.3 in the p.m. The clarity was good but there was a lot of June grass (algae). The wind was out of the NNE in the morning at 3-5mph and shifted SSE at 15-22 mph by the afternoon. The morning was slow with only one small King Mackerel and a few Spanish Mackerel. Two Mahi came through several times, but we were not able to get them to bite. The afternoon bite was a little better. There was another King caught. Benjamin got two big Bonita, Jose caught an “Axe-handle” Spanish and Allen caught a Tarpon. There were lots of Hardtails, Alewives and Cigar Minnows were available for bait.

 

 


 

 

 

Tuesday: The water temp was 87.1 in the a.m. and peaked at 89.4 in the p.m. The clarity was good but there was a lot of June grass (algae). The wind was out of the ENE in the morning at 7-12mph and shifted SW at 8-14 mph by the afternoon. Several King Mackerel were hooked early morning but only one was decked. Several Bonita and Spanish Mackerel were caught. A large Barracuda was caught on an X-Rap. The afternoon was slow with a couple of Kings hooked. Jose lost his and over half of his line to “Flipper” and I decked a “Snake” King. Danny hooked a Bonita that shot the pilings. Several Spanish Mackerel were decked. Hardtails were caught all day. Ladyfish moved in late afternoon. There were schools of Cigar Minnows, Alewives and a few Spanish Sardine available for bait.

 

 


Wednesday: water temp 87.4 n 6-8 The water temp was 87.4 in the a.m. and peaked at 89.2 in the p.m. The clarity was good but there was a lot of June grass (algae). The wind was out of the N in the morning at 6-8mph and shifted W at 12-14 mph by 3:00 p.m. A huge shelf cloud moved in from the east at 4:20 p.m. with heavy lightning and SSE wind 35-40 mph. There were several King Mackerel and lots of Bonita in the morning. The afternoon began slowly with a few Bonita. Then the wind shifted and there were six King Mackerel hooked, 5 decked and more summer Bonita. Jose got his limit of Kings and Nathan decked a nice one. Ladyfish and Hardtails were steadily coming over the rail. Tristin, a 14-year-old was visiting from Arkansas and caught his first Bonita. Taylor from Louisiana had a battle with his first Bonita. John C. and many other anglers decked several Bonita.
